The CMS Widget - Updatable Wizard adds an editable field to a CMS Page: you choose a table, a field and a control type, and the wizard places a widget that shows the field's current value and saves the visitor's changes. The widget can be found within the Updatable group as Wizard. Please review Adding CMS Widget for more information.
- Choose the container in Add Widget, then double-click Wizard within the Updatable group.
- In Table/Field, choose the table and then the field.
- For a household table, choose the household in the third list.
- Choose the Control type.
- Click Finish to add the widget to the container.
Table/Field lists the tables the page allows, then the fields of the selected table. The tables come from the page's Data menu: Template uses the list set on the template page, and Page uses the tables checked for this page. Note: When the page allows no tables, the wizard shows "No available data tables. Please use "Data" menu item on the page to select data tables."
Household (the third list) appears for households, attributes household and household financial aid data, and sets whose household the field reads and saves.
- CurrentUser is the household of the person logged in.
- StudentPrimary and StudentSecondary are the selected student's primary and secondary households, and StudentGrandParent1 to StudentGrandParent4 are the student's grandparent households.
- InquiryPrimary, InquirySecondary, InquiryGrandParent1 to InquiryGrandParent4 and InquirySelf are the matching households of the selected inquiry.
Control type lists the controls that fit the field.
- TextBox, HiddenField and Hyperlink for text fields.
- DropDown and HiddenField for fields with a list of values, and TypeableDropDown for lists that also accept typed values.
- Checkbox and HiddenField for yes and no fields.
- Number and HiddenField for whole number and decimal fields.
- Date and HiddenField for date fields.
HiddenField keeps the value on the page without showing it.
Input Mode and Initials Length are settings of the TextBox control, in the widget's properties window. Input Mode is Default or Initials. Initials is for a short mark the visitor types next to a statement, such as the initials of the student under each policy of an enrollment agreement: the box accepts at most Initials Length characters (4 unless changed) and asks a phone keyboard for capital letters. Check Is Required so the page is not saved, and an Application Form is not signed, until the initials are entered.
On an Application Form page, the text typed into a TextBox is kept with the applicant's snapshot: it is shown again when the family resumes the form, it is read-only for the second parent of a two-signature household, and it is printed on the signed contract PDF after its label. Clear the Table/Field in the properties window when the value is needed only on the contract; a TextBox that keeps its Table/Field saves the value to the record as well. Review Application Form Signing.
Logged-in contact is a table of the contact fields of the person logged in, such as First Name, Email, Phone1 and Pronoun. Each field reads and saves the household contact the person is, Parent 1 or Parent 2, so one widget serves every staff member and parent. Staff use it on a page such as My Contact Info to choose their own pronoun with a Pronoun drop-down. Note: When the person's login is not linked to the household, the field shows no value and the change is not saved.
The page saves the fields when the visitor clicks a CMS Widget - Button or a submit widget on the page.
The widget also has the settings described in CMS Widget - Standard Properties.
