The Course Selection (Tree) CMS Widget is a portal control that lists every course a student is eligible to take next year, grouped under its department, with a checkbox beside each course. It is an alternative to CMS Widget - Course Selection (Grid). The Tree widget suits a small, fixed catalog that a student can review on a single page, whereas the Grid widget suits a large catalog that a student needs to search. The widget is located within the Course group. For more details about adding this widget, see Adding CMS Widget.
Note: The Tree and the Grid are separate controls. Settings that share a name between them, such as Ranking Type and Sign Up Limit, offer different options and different defaults. Configuring one does not configure the other.
The Read Only Selections property displays the student's selections without allowing changes. The default is No.
The Show Department Header property displays the department name above each group of courses. The default is No.
The Show Department Description property displays the department description entered in Scheduling > Department > Details > Department Description screen in Campus. It appears only when Show Department Header is also set to Yes. The default is No.
The Show Course Signup Header property displays the column-header row above the course table, such as Course, Rank, Terms, and Credits. The default is No.
The Show Selected Courses Only property hides every course the student has not already selected. The default is No.
The Show Credits Per Term property displays the Credits column. The default is No.
The Show Number Of Term property displays the Terms column. The default is No.
The Show Required Signature Line property displays the Signature column for a printed sign-off. The default is No.
The Show Ranking property displays the Rank column. The column only appears for departments that also have Rank Selections set to Yes in Scheduling > Departments. The default is No.
The Sort Dept By Report Order property orders departments by their report order instead of alphabetically. The default is No.
The Only Show Open Selections property hides courses whose division Course Selection End Date has passed. The default is No.
The Order Courses By Short Name property orders courses within a department by short name instead of by name. The default is No.
The Ranking Type property of “Unique Ranks Per Department” prevents users from selecting the same ranking for more than one course within the same department, whereas “Any Rank” allows users to select the same ranking for multiple courses. The default is Unique Ranks Per Department. Note: The Grid widget's equivalent options are “Auto Rank” and “Any Rank”.
The Sign Up Limit property restricts the number of signups allowed per course. “Actual Section Capacity” uses the combined capacity of the course's sections for next year, “Course Default Section Capacity” uses the Default Section Capacity field on the course, and “No Limit” applies no cap. The default is Actual Section Capacity. Note: The Grid widget's Sign Up Limit defaults to No Limit instead.
The Confirmation Email property selects the email template sent after selections are submitted, either to the student or to the student and their contacts.
The Is Student Comment Visible property displays a comment box for a scheduling note the student can add. The default is No.
The Header Style property sets the CSS class applied to the widget's headers. The default is HeaderStyle.
The Show Description property displays the course description entered in Scheduling > Course > Details > Description screen in Campus, shown inline beneath each course. Set to No, the description moves to a hover tooltip on the checkbox instead of appearing inline. The default is Yes.
Note: The Tree widget enables or disables the selection form based on the student's Online Selection End Date only. The division's Course Selection End Date separately controls whether courses the student has not yet selected appear at all. A student whose own date is open but whose division date has passed sees an enabled form containing only the courses already selected. See Configuring Course Selections, section 6.
