FAQ: Who Gets the New IRS 1099-NEC Form?
Posted December 07, 2020
The Internal Revenue Service reintroduced Form 1099-NEC to report payments for services of $600 or more during 2020 to independent contractors and freelancers. In the past, such payments were reported on Form 1099-MISC along with other types of income (prizes, awards, etc). Copy A of the 1099-NEC form is due to the IRS by February 1, 2021, for year 2020, with the “B” copies deadline to the actual contractor-recipients also being February 1, 2021.
Please note that as a result of this change, you need to double-check how 1099 items are allocated.
