Configuring Health Office Check-In

Posted October 14, 2026

To set up health office check-in, add the Check In / Check Out widget to its own CMS page and set Check In Purpose to Health Office. Students then check in to the health office at that page with their own ID or PIN, and each check-in is recorded as a health visit for the school nurse.

Setting up the page requires an account with permission to edit CMS pages. Reviewing the visits in Campus requires the Health Full or Health Read role, and managing the list of reasons requires Health Full.

Setting up the kiosk page

- Open the CMS page the health office kiosk will use, or create a new page. Give the health office its own page, separate from any attendance kiosk.

- Click Add Widget, then User, then Check In / Check Out.

- Open the widget Properties dialog with the gear icon and set Check In Purpose to Health Office.

- Set Sign In Type to the student sign-in methods the health office will accept: Student ID, PIN, Name + PIN, Alternate ID, or Username.

- Adjust any of the optional fields below, then save the widget.

- On the device in the health office, sign in once with a staff account, then open the page. The kiosk is ready for students.

What the student sees

- The student enters their ID or PIN on the keypad and presses Check In.

- The next screen shows the student's name under the Health Visit Prompt, with a Reason list and a Comment box.

- The student chooses a reason, adds a comment if they wish, and presses Check In. Cancel returns the kiosk to the sign-in screen.

- A success card confirms the check-in with the student's name, ID and grade, and their photo when Show Student Photo is on. The kiosk then returns to the sign-in screen for the next student.

What the health office sees

Each check-in appears in Campus under Health > Health Visits, with Time In set to the moment the student checked in and the student's choice in the Student Reason column. The Student Comment column can be turned on in the list.

On the visit itself, Reason holds the student's choice, Student's Account holds the comment, and Entered By Student shows the kiosk account and the student's name, followed by the time of the check-in. The nurse completes the visit from there, including Time Out when the student leaves.

Important fields

Check In Purpose: Health Office records a health visit for each check-in. Attendance, the default, keeps the widget as an attendance kiosk.

Sign In Type: The student sign-in methods the kiosk offers. A health office kiosk accepts a student's own ID, PIN, Name + PIN, alternate ID or username. Staff ID is not offered, and a parent or authorized pick-up PIN or login shows the Health Visit Student Only Message.

Health Visit Prompt: The line shown above the student's name on the reason screen. The default is "What brings you in today?"

Health Visit Show Comment: Yes shows the Comment box on the reason screen. The default is Yes.

Health Visit Timeout Seconds: A reason screen left untouched for this many seconds returns to the sign-in screen and records nothing. The default is 60. Set it to 0 to keep the reason screen up until the student chooses.

Health Visit Student Only Message: The message shown when a parent or household PIN or login is used at the health office kiosk. The default is "The health office needs the student's own ID or PIN."

Check In Success Message: The greeting on the success card, for example "The nurse knows you are here."

Note: The Reason list is the Student Health Reasons list the health office already uses on the health visit in Campus. Users with the Health Full role add to it with the Manage link beside Reason. When the list is empty, the kiosk hides the Reason field.

Note: A health office kiosk records health visits only. It writes no attendance or check-in entries and sends no check-in emails, so Program Type is not required and the Check Out button does not appear.

Note: When the student has a portal login, the visit is linked to that login, the same as a health visit the student enters on the portal. For a student without a portal login, the visit is linked to the kiosk account.

Note: Teachers can also send a student to the health office from the teacher portal, using the widget described in CMS Widget - Health Visit. A visit a teacher starts and a check-in the student then makes at the kiosk are recorded as two separate visits.

For the full list of kiosk settings, see CMS Widget - Check In / Check Out.
